| INTRODUCTION:
Star Child is pleased to offer a select range of hand-crafted sacred sculptures,
originally created by Phillipa Bowers. Phillipa has worked as a sculptress
of sacred art for 20 years, during which time she has created an uninterrupted
flow of unique pieces that express and reflect her relationship and interpretation
of feminine archetypes throughout history. Her powerful works of art appear
to emanate a seemingly living presence that reflects their particular
expressions.
Although Phillipa has created many singular original pieces in a variety
of materials including bronze, she has endeavoured to make many of her
clay sculptures available through slip cast and hand pressed moulds.
In 1997 Phillipa retired from production of her sculptures to explore
further artistic work in the form of writing and painting. It was at this
time that Star Child took on the production of her moulded range of sculptures.
Phillipa and her husband now live in Tintagel, Cornwall, where she continues
to explore her creative flow inspired by the ancient traditions, myths
and legends that are so richly embodied within the Cornish landscape.
This range of sculptures is created from moulds and each piece maintains
its individuality due to the complex finishing process. This involves
hand-fettling to enhance their specific features, as well as the application
of glazes, gold lustres, oxides, crystals and fossils. Some pieces can
go through as many as 9 processes before they are complete. The alchemical
reaction of kiln firing creates a certain degree of colour variation,
and this, along with the intricate process of hand-crafting, renders each
piece unique.
These sacred sculptures make wonderful altar pieces and can powerfully
enhance the ambience of any ceremonial or ritual setting. They are a divine
expression of the ever present archetypes, and can enhance any form of
meditative contemplation and reflection, especially when used in conjunction
with incense and candle offerings.
