| HERBAL SMOKES
Although in our day and age smoking is largely considered a vice, this
has not always been so. In other times and places smoking has a long and
venerable history. To the ancients smoking was not just one of many ways
to explore and partake in the essence of herbs, it was a sacred act. Smoke
releases the spirit of a plant and thus purifies and centres heart and
mind. In India, holy men known as Sadhus have long smoked Chillums stuffed
with sacred herbal smoking mixes to commune with Shiva, the god of creation.
Water pipes fired with dried camel dung are an ancient tradition in many
parts of northern Africa. In Native American tradition the holy pipe is
the vehicle of the Great Spirit and its ritual was among the most sacred
acts of all. No matter of importance was ever brought to conclusion without
sharing a pipe in the presence of the gods and no deal was firm lest sealed
with sacred smoke. Herbal smoking mixtures also played an important role
in plant gathering rituals where they became a token of gratitude, a way
to ‘give back’ to the plant spirits. Without such an exchange
the medicine would have been useless.
USE:
Herbal smoking mixtures not only provide an excellent and relatively non-toxic
alternative to commercial tobacco. They also open the gate to experimental
exploration of herbs, for contemplation, or ritual purposes. Although
herbal smoking mixes can be rolled into cigarettes the easiest and most
effective method of use is to smoke them in a pipe.
Star Child smoking mixes are blends of pure herbs that have not been
subjected to any form of processing or curing. They do not contain any
additives, flavour enhancers, preservatives or substances that influence
the rate at which herbs burn.
CAUTION
Herbal smokes produce tar. Smoking is not recommended during pregnancy.
